Disney Trip Report - Day 3

Click here for -> Day 2

Day 3 was pretty simple – two items on the to do list – Magic Kingdom and hanging at the pools.  Given Magic Kingdom was going to be open to 1AM – easy decision to hit the pool all morning/afternoon, and then hit Magic Kingdom late afternoon unitl the kids pooped out.

Our hotel deal gave us $100 of room credits, so we figured that was 2-3 lunches at the pool, or 1-2 lunches and some buckets of beer ;).  Either way, we trekked over to the Swan side Sunday for the Splash Terrace, where they actually made pretty fresh (and cheap by Disney standards) sandwiches.  Kids were able to get a couple slices of pizza for a few bucks – easily fed all four of us for $25 (a rarity anywhere at WDW).

The boys were amazed at how “socialized” ducks, squirrels, etc were.  It was nothing for ducks literally to come right up to your feet and just wait for the kids to drop something.  I am assuming they are so used to it happening that it has become their main source of food.  Funny at first, a bit annoying after 10 minutes.  Even the darn bunnies were coming up to the table.
Sunday was a big Big Thunder Mountain Railroad day, as well as Splash Mountain.  Carter was apprehensive at first on both – especially Splash Mountain, but once he rode it once, it became one of his faves.

Not a lot to post about on day 3 – just a typical night at Magic Kingdom – hitting everything we could.  It was busier than Friday, but for the most part, late at night, we were still walking onto Big Thunder (when earlier, it was easily a 60+ minute wait).

We grabbed dinner at Pesco Bills Tall Tale Inn – I managed to dump a soda, as the kids didn’t desire to help and Disney still has not adopted the Portillo’s style trays will drink holders built in (maybe that can be my million dollar pitch to Disney).  Every meal we eat there, it is a nightmare getting the food back to the table, as with the drinks, the trays are too heavy , and often it is hard to leave the table vacant, as they are sparse to begin with.

We caught fireworks three of the four days we were at Magic Kingdom – always right by Peter Pan, behind the Carousel – to me, that’s the ideal spot, as while you can’t see the front of the castle, the fireworks are literally right on above your head – its loud, and that makes it the best.   At that position, Disney actually continually runs water on the roofs of the buildings as to prevent a fire.
Connor’s goal was to get a Stitch animal (from Lilo and Stitch) and we nabbed one on the way out to the monorail that night (all in all, we got out of Disney buying only a Stich doll, a Pooh doll, and two parking trams – yes parking trams, more on that later).

Day 3 came to a close and Hollywood Studios was on the docket bright and early Monday morning – as any errors our timing Monday morning would probably result in only 1 or 2 rides on Toy Story Mania – as I was not about to wait the customary 2 hours the ride builds to….

Carter, getting ready to jump into the pool.

More fun at the pool.

We arrived around the afternoon parade time.  Our intent was to hop on the railroad to head over to Frontierland - little knowing we kind of discovered a nice spot to watch the parade (from up top of the Main St train station).

Getting ready to ride the "new" Big Thunder.

Every time we came back to the loading point - those about to get on the ride would point and smile at these two.  I think they were surprised to see such "little ones" riding on their own.

Carter apparently has no fear of heights, as he routinely would try to maneuver around to get a good view.

More Big Thunder fun.

Some Frontierland theming.

A shot of Big Thunder Mnt on the way up.

I think this will be one the Disney pictures that will stand the test of time - both riding together, with their hands up.

Back to Goofy's Barnstormer.

Again, Carter trying to get a view.

Stitch, getting a monorail ride out of Magic Kingdom.
